Other People’s Children (2022)
France (French)
Insightfully written and directed, “Other People’s Children” has all the delicious scenes we’ve come to associate with European films of a certain vintage: long kisses on Metro steps, eye-catching skylines of Paris at night and an exceedingly attractive cast of players. Rachel is 40 years old, with no children. She loves her life: her high school students, her friends, her ex, her guitar lessons. When she falls in love with Ali, she becomes attached to Leila, his 4-year-old daughter. She tucks her into bed, cares for her, loves her like her own. But to love other people’s children is risky. This is a gentle, heartfelt relationship drama about – and for – intelligent adults.
