Summary of March Town Meeting:

Good News! Thelma and Javon with the OBCA requested money to add 3 park benches, 3 picnic tables (1 ADA accessible), 2 garbage cans and cement pads to install these for The North East Park. These were ordered. They may use anchor/cement instead of larger cement pads to secure them in place. Also-Hurrah!: the North East Park now has water available.

The EDA requested renewed seats for two of its members as their terms ended. A new member is on Board: Molly Margeson. Thank you Molly!

OMS (Main Street) requested the matching 20K grant to continue digital advertising. It will hold a tourism workshop May 4th @ 3pm, and a second for Sail 250, TBA.

HRSD: the last of the meeters are being installed. The billing for water may be turned over to HRSD; this will be discussed at the next meeting.

An engineering firm retained for Onancock School fire cleaning and further renovationswas asked to access the school roof. Cost for report; $1560. The revision of the lease is under consideration by the town lawyer; Eric Gregory.

Several citizens expressed concern over the confusion last month over the missing 1.5 million of Onancock’s Financial reserves and also asked for a professional to be brought in to organize the town’s records and accounting systems. ( a suggestion for single ledger accounting and an external audit to establish a clear base for the new town manager to operate from).

Mosquito Spraying; The town is researching alternatives to spending $900. per week plus $2500. and possible 3-5K more to store the chemicals for town spraying. There is a movement in town to end spraying by educating the public hot to to reduce mosquito hot spots, the use the dunks to kill all mosquito larvae and encouraging the restoration of natural mosquito predators that are harmed by spraying.

FYI: the chipper is broken again! The big storm exhausted it, our hard working DPW town workers did a fantastic job of clearing mountains of limbs.

NOTE: Residents may wish to get text updates from the town (sample-the chipper is fixed:)
