Housed in the historic 1906 Steamboat Ticket Office, the "Yak Shack" rents bikes, kayaks and paddleboards. It’s the perfect launching spot for exploring the sheltered tributaries of Onancock Creek. Bill and Mary Burnham also lead a kids summer camp, full day trips to the Seaside islands and to see the Chincoteague ponies. They do multi-day kayak camping on the Chesapeake Bay and Assateague backcountry.

The Burnhams are the authors of eight books including Hiking Virginia and Kayaking for Everyone. In the colder months, they lead trips in Florida and Costa Rica.
